Workshop on
‘Secondary Agriculture & Bioprocessing (CIAB-SAB-2019)’
Date and Venue:
13th,14th, 15th and 16th October, 2019 at Center of Innovative and Applied Bioprocessing (CIAB), Mohali
Objective:
Center of Innovative and Applied Bioprocessing (CIAB) is an autonomous institute of the Department of Biotechnology, Govt. of India in Mohali. CIAB is mainly working on Secondary Agriculture and Bioprocessing to develop value added commercial products from different types of bio-resources. It has the mandate on R&D innovations, technology development and transfer to entrepreneurs. Institute is working towards the program like (i) “Doubling the Farmer`s Income” with the same inputs and “Waste to Wealth”, thus creating start-ups/entrepreneurs as well as supporting industries for societal well-being. In India, large amount of fruits and vegetables waste is produced on farm and at processing sites. Similarly, after having the primary produce of agriculture, secondary produce is mostly treated as waste. Such wastes are responsible for environmental pollutions. In view of this, CIAB is developing process technologies to effectively utilize such agro-industrial waste for value addition to provide new avenues and to create entrepreneurs, support to industries as well as to provide new employment opportunities to the rural masses. During past few years, CIAB has been able to transfer four new technologies to the industries, filed 30 patents, and published around 100 research papers. CIAB has expertise in various areas like chemical engineering, food engineering and technology, chemistry, biotechnology, synthetic biology, nanotechnology, and bioprocessing engineering.
In view of the strength and potential of the CIAB, a workshop on ‘Secondary Agriculture & Bioprocessing’ will be organized at the Center of Innovative and Applied Bioprocessing (CIAB), Mohali, India (CIAB-SAB-2019) during 13-16 October, 2019. Workshop will include talks by world class leaders in the subject area detailing importance of secondary agriculture and bioprocessing research and will address related questions. Research talks will be followed by hands-on training on bioprocessing of biomass and characterization of value added products with equipment available at the dedicated state-of-the-art infrastructure facility of CIAB. Invited experts will be available during the workshop for consultation and advice to improve experiment design and analysis strategy.
